Privacy Policy: What EmeraldChat Collects and Why

What we collect

We collect only what we need to run random video chat. That includes technical data such as your device type, browser, IP address and approximate region; account data such as a nickname or login method if you create an account; usage data such as pages visited, matches started and features used; and payment records if you buy coins.

If you contact us, we keep your message and the email address you used. We don't ask for your real name to try the service.

Calls, camera and microphone

To match you, the site asks your browser for camera and microphone access. Audio and video are streamed live between you and the person you're matched with. If a call is reported, moderators may review limited information about that call to decide what to do.

You can turn your camera or microphone off at any time, and you can revoke permission in your browser settings. We ask everyone not to record or share calls, as set out in the community guidelines.

Analytics and measuring usage

We use analytics to understand how people use the site: which pages are visited, where people leave, and whether features work. We use that to fix problems and improve pages. Analytics events describe actions on the site, such as starting a match or opening a page. They are not the content of your calls.

Payments

If you buy coins, payments are handled by payment providers. We receive confirmation that a payment succeeded, the amount and a reference, not your full card number. We keep payment records for as long as accounting and legal rules require.

How we use your information

We use it to match you with other people, keep the service running, count free matches and coins, prevent abuse and fraud, respond to reports and support requests, and understand how the site is used so we can improve it. We don't sell your personal information.

Who we share it with

We share information with service providers who help us run the site, such as hosting, analytics, payment processing and email, and only as needed for that work. We may also share information when the law requires it or when we need to protect people from serious harm. Other users see only what you show or say in a call.

Cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies and local storage to keep the site working, remember your settings, count free matches and measure usage with analytics. You can block or clear cookies in your browser, though some features may stop working.

How long we keep it

We keep information only as long as we need it for the purposes above, or as the law requires. Account data is kept while your account is active. Payment records are kept as long as accounting and legal rules require. Reports and safety records may be kept longer to protect other users.

Your choices and rights

You can update your profile, turn your camera or microphone off at any time, and delete your account from settings. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to access, correct, export or delete your data, or to object to some uses of it. How we protect your information

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect information, including encrypted connections. No system is perfectly secure, so please keep personal details out of conversations with strangers. Habits that help are listed in help and safety.

International use and age requirement

EmeraldChat can be used from many countries, so your information may be processed in places other than where you live. EmeraldChat is for adults aged 18 and over. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18, and we'll delete it if we learn we have.

Changes to this policy
